-Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua) buds are opening in partial shade.
-Eastern Redbuds (Cercis canadensis) are entering their peak bloom time in sunny locations.
-Eastern White Pines (Pinus strobus) are putting on new spring growth.
-Common Blue Violets (Viola sororia) are in bloom.
March 27th, 2025
Louisville, KY
-American plums (Prunus americana) are breaking bud and beginning to leaf out.
-Black Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) has started leafing out.
-Sassafras (Sassafras albidum) buds are swollen and nearly breaking.
-Tulip Polar (Liriodendron tulipifera) has broken bud in full sun and is beginning to leaf out.
-Black Cherry (Prunus serotina) has begun leafing out in full fun.
March 28th, 2025
Shelbyville, KY
-Weeping Cherry (Prunus spp.) is in bloom. These blooms are a light pink which accent the silver grey bark wonderfully, though I don’t care for their form.
-Strawberry (Fragaria spp.) plants are putting on new sets of leaves.

Louisville, KY
-American Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) pollen is currently coating most outdoor surfaces. Their season of heavy pollen will last another week or so.
-Strong winds are blowing Bradford Pear (Pyrus calleryana) blooms across yards, roads, and parking lots. Their infamous odor is present wherever they are visible.
-Common Chickweed (Stellaria media) is in bloom.
